Why Cycle to Work and Where?
One big motivator to become a bicycle commuter is the Bike Commute Challenge. W+K recently entered into the contest with a bunch of Portland based businesses. We compete to see who can log the most miles in one month. Also, the culture in Portland is super bike-friendly. I'd say it's easier, faster and cheaper to get to work on a bike here. I commute from the east side (across the river) and it's only about a 15 minute ride. Most people live pretty close in so it's easy enough.
In September we had 90 people log trips for the month (more people rode, but didn't log in). There was 1309 individual trips to or from work totaling 9982 miles commuted.
